Forest Green Rovers fell to a 0-2 defeat against Barrow at The New Lawn on Tuesday evening.
First half goals from Sam Foley and Dom Telford were enough for the visitors to take all three points.
Rovers were 5-0 victors last time out when Colchester came to The New Lawn, after Saturday’s trip to Mansfield was postponed. Barrow’s most recent game was a 0-0 draw against AFC Wimbledon.
It wasn’t the start Forest Green were hoping for, as just four minutes in, Barrow took the lead. Foley had a go from distance, and his deflected effort wrong-footed James Belshaw, finding the back of the net.
Just over a minute later, Rovers had a great chance to immediately draw level. Marcel Lavinier’s floated cross found Kyle McAllister at the back post, but his header from a few yards out was kept out by Paul Farman.
18 minutes in, Barrow doubled their lead. A weak shot from Elliot Newby fell straight to Telford in the box, and he slotted home past Belshaw.
Shortly after, Rovers found themselves on the attack, outnumbering the Bluebirds’ defence. Callum Morton took the shot on himself, but it was a weak effort straight at the keeper.
With a little over half an hour played, Morton had a try from a tight angle, but it sailed over the bar.
In the 34th minute, Troy Deeney had a golden chance to pull one back. He was played through on goal, but his powerful strike was well denied by Farman.
In additional time, the visitors almost got a third. Telford played the ball to Foley, and hi strike smashed against Belshaw’s crossbar. Nevertheless, there was work to do for Rovers in the second half.
The first opportunity after the break came for Forest Green, with Lavinier curling a free-kick slightly wide of the mark.
In the 69th minute, Rovers had another fantastic chance. Firstly, Deeney was found in the area, but his effort was denied by Farman. Morton then followed up with his own pop at goal, but he too saw his shot saved.
With just over a quarter of an hour to play, substitute Charlie McCann tried to slot home, but Farman again made himself big to keep Rovers out.
A couple of minutes later, Harvey Bunker did well to work his way into the penalty area and square it to Matty Stevens, but his first time volley went wide.
Ten minutes from time, Robbie Gotts shot from range, but it was never troubling Belshaw.
In the 84th minute, Deeney attempted a side-footed strike from just outside the box, which was inches away from nestling into the top corner.
The remainder of the contest saw no chances for either team, and it was defeat for Rovers.
