Having returned to the side following long injury set-backs, Kane Wilson is ready to kick on into the business end of the season, starting with Harrogate Town.
Simon Weaver’s men have found a good run of form recently, and Wilson is more aware than ever of the dangers these sides can present.
“Anyone can beat anyone in this league so at the start of each game you have to treat it like a level playing field,” said the wing-back.
“We have to go in all guns blazing, and make sure we grind out a result.
“Nobody has run away with it yet and there’s a reason for that, the teams in the bottom half of the table keep beating those at the top. You have to be on your toes.”
Given his confident and mature performances of late, it can be hard to remember just how young Wilson is. Having celebrated his 21st birthday yesterday, the defender is raring to once more.
“Three points is the present I want most for my birthday,” he joked.
“The boys tried to give me some birthday beats, but I told them they couldn’t because of the Covid restrictions. I got away with that one.
“Usually I’d be seeing family, but my special outing was to go to training and see the boys. We had a good session and I can’t wait for Saturday now.
“If we get three points, that will be the icing on the cake.”
Despite having missed much of the campaign so far through injury, Wilson has looked sharp since his return to action, but claims he might not have hit top gear just yet.
“It’s been an up and down season for me with my injury and situations off the pitch,” he explained.
“It sounds strange, but when you have a player like Dokes who has played every minute of the season, the body gets used to playing twice a week and learns to deal with that. Coming back at this point in the season I feel like I’m playing catch-up.
“I’ve enjoyed getting back into the flow of playing but it’s getting to crunch time now. I’m glad I can be back to help the boys out.”
