Matty Stevens has signed a new contract with Forest Green Rovers.
The 23-year-old established himself as a key player in Rob Edwards’ side this season, finding the back of the net eighteen times so far in all competitions.
With 80 appearances now under his belt in the green and black Rovers strip, the forward now extends his stay in Gloucestershire beyond this season.
Stevens signed for FGR from Championship side Peterborough United back in July 2019 and has thrived under the management of new boss Edwards.
The Rovers marksman said: “This is the place I want to be. There's been some interest from other clubs, but I want to stay here. I enjoy being here and I want to get promoted.
"For the last two years I've been here, I haven't had that sort of trust before. Rob gave me the opportunity, he's stuck to his word and hopefully, I am repaying him."
Rich Hughes, Director of Football, added: “We're delighted to have secured the future of Matty at the football club. I always felt that given a run of games, he would prove to be an effective goal scorer at this level, and this has been demonstrated with the run of games and output of goals he has returned this season. Matty is a great person to have at the football club and we look forward to the future with him."
Rob Edwards, Head Coach, commented: “Matty has been a really big player for us this season with his goal return so far and hopefully many more to come.
"His overall commitment and work ethic on a daily basis is exemplary. He still might be a young player, but he's one of the leaders and sets an example every day."
