Following his first set of fixtures as Forest Green Rovers’ full-time captain, Joseph Mills has certainly stepped up to his new title, the full-back earning a nomination as August’s League Two Player of the Month.

Having marked the opening day of the season with an assist against Oldham Athletic, Mills got his own account up and running from the spot in a 1-1 draw with Walsall.

Goals in consecutive games, including a 93rd minute winner at Bradford City, saw the full-back take his tally for the month to three goals.

Mills is joined on the shortlist by strikers Eoin Doyle and James Hanson, each with five goals, as well as Newport County defender Ryan Haynes who found the net in the Exiles recent 2-0 win at The New Lawn.

The winner will be announced this Friday, September 13, and is set to be chosen by a judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month which comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
