Forest Green Rovers Ladies have a fresh identity under the name Forest Green Rovers Women in the South West Regional Women’s Football League Eastern Division.

The change comes after efforts over the summer to strengthen links with the first team and academy set ups at The New Lawn, with further changes including the team now playing in Nailsworth and in the brand new PlayerLayer bamboo kit.

The name change was extensively discussed at the last board meeting in recognition of a far more contemporary branding and better representative of the team.

Ashleigh Watson and Kacie Anderson played a big role in the summer launch of FGR’s inspirational new kit, which has proven a huge hit with fans from across the globe, and will continue to sport the zebra pattern during their league and cup games this campaign.

As well as the new name and fresh look, the team, managed by Craig Darkin, are playing their home games at The New Lawn on the Academy training pitch, in the shadow of the stadium, to bring the team closer to its fanbase and players.

Announcing the name change, chairman Gary Wood said: “Changing the name was discussed at the last board meeting and it was unanimous decision.

“Changing to FGR Women gives a more modern and better representative of the team.

“We have made several changes during the off season, to further improve all aspects of the club, which will help to continue to improve the FGR Women’s team.

“The players, volunteers and board members are all very much looking forward to the season ahead.”

Support is welcome at all of the team’s fixtures, and fans can enjoy the match without a cost for entry or parking.

The team are next in action on Sunday, September 29, at The New Lawn when they face Sherborne Town Ladies, with a 2pm kick off.
