Sea Shepherd kit raises thousands for charity partner

April 22nd 2021Conor Shaw

Forest Green Rovers – recognised by the United Nations and FIFA as the world’s greenest club, have raised almost £9000 for Sea Shepherd from the sale of the club’s third kit.

Rovers have partnered with the marine wildlife charity for the past seven seasons, and their iconic Jolly Roger logo has been on display on all FGR kits and on giant flags at the innocent New Lawn stadium ever since.

At the beginning of the 2019/20 season, Rovers launched its first Sea Shepherd-inspired design for their third-choice shirt, reflecting the dazzle camouflage on their iconic vessel, the Steve Irwin – stopping illegal whaling and defending marine wildlife on the high seas.

Proceeds from the sale of the third kit are donated directly to Sea Shepherd UK, and support their fight to protect the Oceans.

Dale Vince, Chairman, Forest Green Rovers, and Patron, Sea Shepherd UK said: "I'm a huge fan of Sea Shepherd and the work they do, on the front line protecting marine creatures all over the world. It’s a privilege to work with and support them."

Rob Read, Chief Operations Officer, Sea Shepherd UK, added: "The partnership between Forest Green Rovers and Sea Shepherd UK is hugely important. Sea Shepherd has a strong following from environmentalists, vegans, animal activists and eco-conscious people - and so does FGR.

"With our logo on all the players and supporters shirts, our flags flying above, and our banners around the pitch at the stadium - FGR has given our charity a new audience to both home and away fans.

"We can’t thank Dale, the club and their fans enough for purchasing the Sea Shepherd themed third shirt which has raised funds for our marine conservation campaigns and helps keep our volunteers, crew and divers protecting the ocean and its inhabitants against many threats shown in the recently released Netflix hit film 'Seaspiracy'."

It’s a privilege to work with and support them.
