Ross signs for Rovers

Forest Green Rovers are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Ethan Ross on a one-year deal.

The imposing 6ft 5in goalkeeper will provide a major boost to Robbie Savage's goalkeeping options ahead of the 2026/27 National League campaign.

The 29-year-old began his youth career at Arsenal before moving to West Bromwich Albion, where he progressed through the club's Under-18 and Under-21 sides. During his time with the Baggies, Ross gained senior experience on loan at Worcester City and Redditch United.

Following the expiry of his contract at West Brom, Ross joined EFL side Colchester United in 2018. During his two-year spell with the U's, he made 10 appearances and also enjoyed a short loan spell at Maidenhead United.

Ross joined Lincoln City on a free transfer in the summer of 2020, making two appearances in the EFL Trophy before spending the second half of the 2020/21 National League season on loan at Weymouth. He went on to make 26 appearances for the Terras, keeping six clean sheets.

Stockport County signed Ross on a free transfer following his departure from Lincoln in the summer of 2021. He made his debut in a 2-1 win against Wrexham and then went on to make nine appearances in all competitions as Stockport won the National League title and secured a return to the EFL after a 10-year absence.

Loan spells with York City and Altrincham helped Ross gain valuable first-team experience before he joined Altrincham on a permanent deal in October 2023. Ross made 65 appearances for the Robins, keeping 19 clean sheets, reaching the National League play-offs in 2023/24.

Ross suffered a serious knee injury in 2025, which kept him sidelined for an extended period. He was released by Altrincham following the expiry of his contract this summer.

Ross will wear the number one shirt for Rovers during the 2026/27 season.
