10-man Forest Green fell to a 3-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.
David Horseman made three changes to his side that drew at Scarborough Athletic in the FA Cup bringing Fankaty Dabo, Jordan Moore-Taylor and Troy Deeney back into the starting eleven.
But even with these changes, Rovers fell behind inside the opening 10 minutes when Tyrese Omotoye turned a corner into his own net.
It took 36 minutes for Rovers to register their first threatening chance when Dabo pulled back a cross for Jamie Robson who saw his driven effort saved by Luke McGee.
McGee fantastically denied his former club from getting back into the game just before half when clawed an Omotoye header away from goal.
Rovers wouldn’t have wanted half time to come after the positive ending, but they started the second half in the worst possible fashion.
Two minutes after the restart, Kristian Dennis pounced on a loose ball to confidently send a left-footed shot past James Belshaw to make it 2-0.
And it went from bad to worse for Rovers as five minutes later, Dom Bernard was shown a second yellow card for a handball leaving Horseman to see the game with 10-men.
Belshaw was called into action on 59 minutes when he got down well to claw a Luke Norris header away from goal, giving Rovers a fighting chance to get back into the game.
Jacob Maddox had Rovers' best chance of the second half when unleashed a looping effort from distance, but McGee produced an incredible fingertip save to deny him.
But Rob Apter put the game beyond doubt adding a third for Tranmere on 71 minutes when he curled a low close ranged, angled effort into the bottom corner.
Rovers will be looking for a response as we are back in action on Tuesday with our FA Cup first round replay against Scarborough Athletic at The New Lawn.
