Forest Green remained top of the Enterprise National League table with a 1-0 win over Hartlepool United at The New Lawn.

Forward Kairo Mitchell netted the only goal of the game with as we continued our unbeaten start to the season.

Rovers started brightly and had a couple of efforts on target through Nick Haughton - but Pools goalkeeper Harvey Cartwright was down to save both efforts.

Hartlepool created an opening through Matty Daly but his deflected effort whistled past the post.

Winger Tom Knowles and forward Mitchell linked up to good effect on 22 minutes following a flowing Rovers move.

Midfielder Harry Whitwell drove forward and found Knowles on the left - he composed himself and fired a low cross for Mitchell to slide home from close range.

Mitchell almost doubled his and Forest Green's tally after he helped Knowles' cross towards goal but Cartwright was down smartly once more.

The visitors created the first chance of the second period with Besart Topallaj forcing Luke McNicholas into a smart stop.

Rovers broke quickly through Whitwell on the hour mark, he teed up Mitchell but his goal-bound strike was denied by an important block.

Jordan Moore-Taylor went close to adding a second but his header from Kyle McAllister's cross was just over the top.

Both sides pressed as the game came towards a close, with Rovers seeing out victory.
