A brilliant display from Forest Green Rovers saw them defeat Frampton Rangers 6-1 in their first home game of the season.
Forest Green Rovers were beaten 2-1 in their opening game of the season against Bishops Lydeard. Frampton Rangers however headed into the game on a high as they won 5-1 against Larkhall Athletic last weekend.
Forest Green Rovers got off to an ideal start, with Rhian Robbins finding the back of the net just six minutes in after a great ball from Alisha Lowry.
Eight minutes later, Georgia-Marie Barbour-Gresham doubled her side's lead in spectacular fashion as she struck the ball from 40 yards, lobbed the keeper and found the top corner.
It was almost a third for the home side as a 25-yard-strike from Hattie Jones rattled the crossbar in the 22nd minute. Just before the half hour mark, Rovers hit the crossbar once again, and this time it was Jen Gray who saw her effort come off the woodwork.
In the 33rd minute, Frampton Rangers brought one back as a great ball from Amie Norris found Kelly Jones just inside the box and her shot was just out of Katie Thatcher’s reach.
The final chance of the half for Rovers saw Rhian Robbins hit the crossbar, with the rebound finding Nalani Hunt, but the ball went just wide of the goal.
Just a couple of minutes into the second half, Hattie Jones hit the crossbar and the ball appeared to bounce down over the line. However, controversially, the referee did not give Rovers the goal.
After a Frampton foul in the 65th minute, Barbour-Gresham made it 3-1 as her free kick went straight at the keeper who failed to keep hold of the ball.
Hunt extended the lead for Rovers in the 81st minute with a magnificent solo run, taking the ball past multiple defenders and striking it into the back of the net. Minutes after, Jones made it 5-1 with a half volley from inside the penalty area.
Shortly before the final whistle, Tori Taylor took a Rovers corner and it was met by the head of Hunt, with the effort too hot for Louise Collier to handle.
Rovers are back in action next weekend, as they face Sherborne Town on the Dorset-Somerset border with kick-off at 2pm.
