FGR Women produced a clinical attacking display to sweep aside Downend Flyers Women 6-1 in the second qualifying round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.

From the first whistle, FGR looked to impose themselves, winning a corner in the first minute of play.

Leilani Ryder was at the heart of the action - going close with a wide effort in the fourth minute and a shot on target in the 12th minute of the game - both stopped by the Downend 'keeper.

After a series of corners where Rovers looked to impose themselves, the breakthrough came midway through the first half, when Ryder was brought down in the box in the 22nd minute.

Katie Jones stepped up confidently from the penalty spot, sending the keeper the wrong way to put the Rovers ahead.

FGR continued to add pressure leading to another goal that was marked offside keeping it 1-0.

Downend stunned the hosts with a powerful free-kick in the 35th minute, levelling the score.

Despite the setback, Forest Green restored the advantage in the 38th minute through Isabelle Owen.

The hosts’ attacking flow didn’t stop there as Ryder turned provider, setting Lola Paul up to fire home soon after.

Owen struck again for her brace in the 45th minute, ensuring FGR went into the break with a 4-1 lead.

Just two minutes after the break, Ryder finally got her reward with a composed finish to make it 5-1.

Captain Hattie Jones added the sixth in the 52nd minute to put the game beyond doubt.

FGR made a number of substitutions in the second half, introducing Amelie Birchley, Tia-Chanay Harris, Lily Hewitt, Isabel Cheslin and Lashai McNama.

Birchley tested the Downend keeper twice from set pieces, but the visitors held firm to prevent further goals.

The final whistle confirmed an emphatic 6-1 victory for Forest Green Rovers Women, highlighting their attacking quality.

Having shown the ability to instantly respond to setbacks and dominate for long stretches, they march into the next round of the FA Cup full of confidence.
