All the background information on 'The Cards'

February 2nd 2026Ben Brown

Forest Green Rovers return to National League action tonight as they take on Woking FC at The New Lawn.

Rovers exited the FA Trophy on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated 3-0 by fellow National League side Wealdstone.

Robbie Savage’s side will be looking to bounce back this evening and kickstart another unbeaten run in the league.

Ahead of kick-off, here is everything you need to know about our opponents.

The Opposition: Woking

League Position: 11th

Nickname: ‘The Cards’

Woking have had a solid campaign to date, currently sitting 12th in the National League table. They had a difficult start to the season, not picking up just one point in their opening five league games. The club picked up important wins over Morecambe and Gateshead to kickstart their season before going on an impressive unbeaten run.

After a 3-0 victory over Solihull Moors at the end of September, the Cards went 10 league games without defeat. Wins away at rivals Aldershot Town and high-flying Carlisle United were two highlights of the run.

The two clubs met back in September, where Rovers came away from the Kingfield Stadium with all three points after a 2-0 victory. Goals from Jayden Clarke and Tom Knowles extended Rovers’ unbeaten run in the league at the time to 10 games. Rovers will be hoping for a similar result tonight and complete a league double over the Surrey-based side.

In The Dugout- Neil Ardley

Former AFC Wimbledon Manager Neil Ardley is the man at the helm for Woking.

During his six years as Don's boss, Ardley’s side achieved promotion to League One via a Play-Off final victory over Plymouth Argyle.

Since his departure in 2018, he has also had spells at Notts County, Solihull Moors and York City before joining Woking.

Ardley was appointed back in December 2024, after the club sacked Michael Doyle, with the Cards sat in 19th at the time.

The 53-year-old would guide the club to a 15th-place finish, six points clear of the dreaded relegation zone.

Ardley will be hoping his side can pick up another important three points and continue to climb the league table.

Player To Watch: Olly Sanderson

Forward Olly Sanderson has impressed since joining Woking on loan at the start of the season.

The 22-year-old joined the Cards from Fulham back in August and has been a stand-out performer for the Surrey-based outfit.

In his 21 National League appearances, the striker has found the back of the net on six occasions and provided one assist.

Two of those goals have come in his last four league games, highlighting that he is on a good run of form.

Rovers will need to be aware of Sanderson in and around the penalty area, as he’s a player who certainly knows where the back of the net is.
