The down-low on 'The Stones'

January 30th 2026Ben Brown

Forest Green Rovers turn their attention to the FA Trophy this weekend as they take on Wealdstone at The New Lawn.

Rovers advanced to the last 16 of the competition at the start of January, defeating Ebbsfleet United 2-0 at the Stonebridge Road Stadium.

Goals from Isaac Moore and Abraham Kanu secured victory for Robbie Savage’s side, who will be looking to go at least one step further than they did last season.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash, here is everything you need to know about our opponents.

The Opposition: Wealdstone

National League Position: 12th

Nickname: ‘The Stones’

Wealdstone have had a solid campaign so far this season, currently sitting 12th in the National League table. They picked up a much-needed three points last weekend, defeating Woking 1-0 at home. It was their first victory in the league since the start of November, having been on an eight-match winless run. The two sides met back in November, with the points being shared after Isaac Moore’s opener was cancelled out by Micah Obiero’s second-half equaliser.

Wealdstone reached the last 16 of the competition after seeing off Dagenham and Redbridge 1-0. A late strike from Micah Obiero secured the club’s passage to the next round, and they will be looking to use last weekend’s victory in the league to build momentum.

Paragraph Break

In The Dugout- Sam Cox

Sam Cox is the current man at the helm at Wealdstone.

Cox was appointed back in June after the departure of former manager Neil Gibson by mutual consent.

The 35-year-old had a spell as interim Manager at the back end of the 2023/24 season, helping the club survive on the final day.

The Guyana international also had a spell with the Stones as a player, featuring for the club 64 times between the years 2016 and 2019.

Cox will be hoping his side can continue to impress and pick up a positive result against the league leaders.

Player To Watch: Micah Obiero

A name that has already been mentioned in the preview, forward Micah Obiero has been a standout performer for the Stones.

Obiero has scored 5 goals and provided 3 assists in 26 National League appearances so far this campaign.

The 24-year-old joined the club from Boston back in 2022 and has since made over 100 appearances for the Stones.

He has already passed his goal and assists tally from last season, highlighting how the striker is in a rich run of form this campaign.

A player who can punish the opposition when given the opportunity, Rovers will need to be aware of Obiero in and around the penalty area.
