Preview: Stevenage (H)

December 30th 2021Will Pritchard

Following an extended festive break, Forest Green Rovers return to action on New Year’s Day, hosting Stevenage at the Fully Charged New Lawn.

Stevenage come into the fixture after a 0-0 draw against Swindon Town on Wednesday night, as Paul Tisdale’s side claimed a point in what was their first game since December 18th.

Rovers will be looking to continue the fine run of form that they had constructed in November and December, having won four of their last five league games before a Covid-19 outbreak caused several postponements.

WHAT WE SAID

Barrow-home-Nov-21-Edwards

“It’s been a challenging couple of weeks,” Edwards explained ahead of Saturday’s game.

“We’ve all had to adapt; everyone is in the same boat at the moment. The main thing is we have to keep consistent with what we do and have no excuses at all.

“I can’t wait to be involved in the game again and to see our fans. It’s going to be great - we’re really looking forward to it and the lads are itching and raring to go. We want a good performance.

“The new manager (Paul Tisdale) has come in and you can already see what he’s trying to build. They’ve become difficult to break down, are very organised and he’s talked a lot about mentality.

“They’ve got their strengths and we’ve got to make sure we’re concentrating at all times in the game because they can be dangerous.”

TEAM NEWS

Rob Edwards will have a slightly reduced squad to select from after the Rovers manager confirmed that three players had tested positive for Covid-19 in the build-up to the game.

However, there are no fresh injury concerns despite the Covid-19 absences.

Stevenage will be bolstered by the addition of new signing Christy Pym after the goalkeeper recently signed a loan deal until the end of the season.

The visitors are expected to have a full squad to choose from ahead of their trip to Nailsworth.
