Preview Scunthorpe (A)

Information on tomorrow's opponents

January 23rd 2026Ben Brown

Forest Green Rovers travel to Glanford Park tomorrow afternoon to take on Scunthorpe United in the National League.

Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at The New Lawn against Altrincham and will be hoping to return to winning ways this weekend.

That point for Robbie Savage’s side extended their unbeaten run in the league to four games.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash, here is everything you need to know about our opponents.

The Opposition: Scunthorpe United

League Position: 6th

Nickname: ‘The Iron’

It has been an impressive campaign to date for Scunthorpe United, who, like Rovers, currently occupy one of the play-off positions and sit in 6th. They made a tremendous start to the season, going 10 games unbeaten and only suffering their first defeat at the start of October to Carlisle United. Again, like Rovers, they have only come away from a National League game empty-handed on three occasions and have only lost once at home all season.

The two sides met all the way back in September, in a match which was a brilliant advert for the National League. The Iron took the lead in the 2nd minute through Declan Howe, and that goal looked like it would earn them all three points. However, a dramatic 98th-minute equaliser from James Balagizi rescued a point for Rovers with virtually the last kick of the game. Robbie Savage will be hoping his side can provide a reason for a similar touch-line celebration!

In the Dugout: Andy Butler

Iron legend Andy Butler is the current man in the dugout for Scunthorpe United.

During his playing career, Butler made 152 appearances for the club across two spells, scoring 15 goals.

The 41-year-old was appointed in May 2024, promoted from his previous role as First Team Coach.

During his first season in charge, Butler and his side earned promotion back into the National League after a Play Off Final victory over Chester.

Having achieved promotions with the club now as a player and manager, Butler will be looking to continue that theme at the end of the season.

Player To Watch: Callum Roberts

Winger Callum Roberts has had a superb campaign for the Iron so far this season.

Roberts has found the back of the net on 10 different occasions, putting him tied fifth in the National League top goal scorer chart.

The 28-year-old is also on a good run of form, with five of those goals coming in his last four league appearances.

The former Newcastle youngster also has five assists to his name, highlighting how he has an eye for a pass as well as a goal.

Rovers will need to be aware of Roberts’ threats in and around their box as he is a player who will punish the opposition if given the opportunity.
