Forest Green Rovers take a break from league action on Friday night as they travel to Kenilworth Road to take on Luton Town in the First Round of the FA Cup.
Rovers returned to winning ways last Saturday as they defeated Boreham Wood 2-1 at The New Lawn in the National League.
Robbie Savage’s side will be looking to cause the first upset of the round and make it back-to-back wins in all competitions tomorrow night.
Ahead of the clash, here is everything you need to know about our opponents.
The Opposition: Luton Town
Nickname: ‘The Hatters’
League: League One
League Position: 10th
Luton have made a reasonable start to their League One campaign, sitting in mid-table and six points outside of the Play Off places. In their opening 13 games, the Hatters have picked up 19 points, which includes six wins, 1 draw and six defeats. The club is back in the third tier of English Football for the first time in six years after suffering consecutive relegations from the Premier League and Championship.
The Hatters returned to England’s top flight in the 2022/23 season, defeating Coventry City in the Championship Play-Off Final on penalties. Their stay would be short lived however, suffering relegation in their first season back, and another would follow last season as the club dropped out of the Championship on the last day of the campaign.
In The Dugout- Jack Wilshere
Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is the man in the dugout for Luton Town.
Wilshere was appointed as Hatters boss just over two weeks ago after former Manager Matt Bloomfield was sacked after nine months in charge.
The 33-year-old retired from football in July 2022 and shortly after became the head coach of Arsenal’s U18 side.
The former England international would then go on to join Norwich City as a First Team Coach in October 2024, under Manager at the time Johannes Hoff Thorup.
After his departure, Wilshere would have a brief spell as interim Manager of the Canaries before joining the Hatters at the start of October.
In his first professional managerial role, Wilshere will be looking to make an impact with the Hatters and climb the league table.
Player To Watch- Jordan Clark
Jordan Clark is currently in his sixth season as a Luton Town player and played a pivotal role in the club’s rise through the divisions which saw the Hatters reach the Premier League.
Clark opened the scoring in the Championship Play Off Final which Luton would go onto win and reach the top flight of English football.
Despite the club’s successive relegations, the 32-year-old has remained at Kenilworth Road and has started this season in fine form.
The midfielder has scored three goals so far this campaign and is looking a real threat at the level.
Rovers will need to be aware of the quality Clark possesses and keep a close eye on the midfielder in and around the box.
