A look at Saturday's opponents

September 5th 2025FGR Media

National League leaders Forest Green Rovers return to The New Lawn tomorrow afternoon as they host Hartlepool United.

Rovers moved to the summit of the league table after their convincing 3-1 victory at Morecambe on Tuesday night.

Ahead of tomorrow’s fixture, here is everything you need to know about our opposition.

The Opposition- Hartlepool United

Nickname: ‘The Pools’

League Position: 5th

Hartlepool United have made an impressive start to their National League campaign and like Rovers, are unbeaten in their seven league fixtures so far this season. They have drawn their last three fixtures having picked up 10 points from their opening four games.

The Pools currently have the best defensive record in the league having conceded just two goals in their seven games so far and have kept five clean sheets. After consecutive mid-table finishes, the North-East club will be looking to climb the table this season.

In The Dugout - Simon Grayson

Former Leeds United and Sunderland boss Simon Grayson is the current man in the dugout at Hartlepool United.

Grayson was only appointed this Summer after former Manager Anthony Limbrick was sacked after just four months in charge.

The 55-year-old has an impressive managerial CV; achieving promotion from League One to the Championship with four different clubs.

He has made a strong start as Pools boss and will be hoping to add another promotion to the list come the end of the season.

Player To Watch - Alex Reid

Forward Alex Reid signed for Hartlepool United this summer following his release from League Two side Oldham Athletic.

However, it was his loan spell at Wealdstone which caught the eye last season, scoring an impressive 20 goals across his two spells with club which helped the club stay up.

The 29-year-old has continued his fine form into this season, finding the back of the net three times in his six National League appearances so far this campaign.

The forward has all the attributes a good striker needs and Rovers will need to be aware of Reid’s quality in and around the box.

Head-to-Head:

Rovers will be looking to end the visitors unbeaten record tomorrow afternoon and continue their own unbeaten start to the season.
