National League leaders Forest Green Rovers are back on the road tomorrow night as they travel to the Jakemans Community Stadium to take on Boston United.
Rovers made it 12 games unbeaten in their league campaign on Saturday afternoon as they played out an entertaining 1-1 draw against York City at The New Lawn.
Ahead of Wednesday’s clash, here is everything you need to know about our opponents.
The Opposition - Boston United
Nickname: ‘The Pilgrims’
League Position: 19th
Boston have made a reasonable start to their National League campaign, picking up 12 points from their opening 11 games. After picking up six points in their first four games, the Pilgrims then went without a win in their next five before defeating Braintree Town last Wednesday 2-0 and only being denied all three points at Sutton through a stoppage time equaliser by the home side.
It is the club’s second season back in the fifth tier of English football after defeating Brackley Town in the National League North Play Off Final in the 2023/34 campaign to secure promotion. The club avoided relegation last season by just three points and will be hoping to climb the table this season.
In The Dugout - Graham Coughlan
Former Plymouth Argyle defender Graham Coughlan is the man in charge at Boston United.
Coughlan was appointed back in November 2024, with the club sitting in 23rd position at the time of his arrival.
The 50-year-old would go onto guide the Pilgrims to safety by three points with a game to spare.
The Irishman has had experience managing in the EFL with three different clubs including Bristol Rovers, Mansfield Town and Newport County.
Having now entered his first full season as Boston’s manager, Coughlan will be looking to kick on after last season’s great escape.
Player To Watch - Greg Sloggett
Greg Sloggett has made an impressive start to the new campaign after re-joining Boston in the Summer.
The midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan with the club, helping them in their bid for eventual survival in the league.
The 29-year-old was released by fellow National League side Hartlepool United and the Pilgrims did not hesitate to get the Irishman back in black and yellow.
In his 11 games this season, the midfielder has grabbed two goals; one in the 3-2 win at Aldershot and one in the 2-1 win at home to Wealdstone.
A midfielder who can do both sides of the game extremely well, Rovers will need to be aware of the quality Sloggett possesses.
Head-To-Head:
Last season was the first time the two clubs had met with Rovers picking up victories both home and away. They will be looking to replicate this when they travel North tomorrow evening!
