Rovers face impressive Wood side

October 23rd 2025FGR Media

The Opposition: Boreham Wood

Nickname: ‘The Wood’

League Position: 2nd

Boreham Wood have made an extremely impressive start to the season, having picked up 32 points from their opening 15 league games sitting second in the table. They are also the joint-second top scorers in the division and have only suffered one league defeat so far this campaign. That defeat came on the opening day of the season, which was a 2-0 defeat to current league leaders Rochdale at home. This means The Wood are currently on a 14-game unbeaten run in the league and are yet to taste defeat on the road.

Our visitors are in their first season back as a National League side, after achieving promotion last season from the National League South. The club finished fifth in the table and made an immediate return to Step Five of the English pyramid via the playoffs. After victories over Dorking Wanderers and Torquay United, The Wood saw off Maidstone United 1-0 in the final securing their return at the first time of asking.

In The Dugout: Luke Garrard

Luke Garrard is the current man in the dugout for Boreham Wood.

Garrard is in his second spell as the Wood’s boss, having managed the club for just shy of a decade from 2015 to 2024.

The 40-year-old departed the club after their relegation from the National League but would return less than six months later after his replacement Ross Jenkins was sacked.

Garrard would guide the club straight back to the National League via the playoffs, further enhancing his status as a club legend.

He will be hoping his side can continue their fine start to the campaign as they travel to The New Lawn this weekend.

Player To Watch: Matt Rush

Forward Matt Rush has started this season’s National League in seriously impressive form.

The 24-year-old has found the back of the net nine times in the first 15 league games and has scored five in his last four.

Rush joined the Wood from Sutton United for an undisclosed fee in the midway through the 2024/25 season.

The striker would go on to help the club achieve promotion back to the National League after ending the season on 18 goals.

Rush is currently the joint third top scorer in the division and Rovers will have to keep a close eye on the striker in and around the box.

Head-To-Head:

Rovers have won three of the four meeting between the two sides and will be looking to make it four wins from five tomorrow afternoon.
