We welcome Northampton Town to The Fully Charged New Lawn this evening as this season's Papa John's Trophy campaign gets underway.

The Cobblers are the first of three group-stage opponents, with tonight's action getting underway at 7pm.

Rovers have no fresh injury concerns following Saturday's defeat to Port Vale.

Key Player: Mitchell Pinnock

Northampton Town signed winger Mitch Pinnock on a 2 year contract in July 2021 after Pinnock turned down the offer of a new contract with Kilmarnock.

The 6ft 1in Gravesend born player started his career with Southend United before a successful spell with Dover Athletic. He joined AFC Wimbledon for a tribunal fixed fee in the summer of 2018, and made 73 appearances in two League 1 seasons while in south west London, scoring seven times. In the summer of 2020 he moved to SPL side Kilmarnock and made 37 appearances in 2020/21, finding the net five times.

Last time we met:

Northampton Town recorded their sixth straight home victory with a win over Forest Green Rovers in December 2019.

The visitors struck the woodwork a total of three times across the 90 minutes but Matt Mills' first-half own-goal ultimately earned the Cobblers all three points to move them within a point of third place in League Two.

Head-to-head:

Rovers have won just one meeting between the two sides, with Northampton coming out on top in the other three.

FGR's victory came courtesy of a late Theo Archibald strike as he snatched three points for Rovers in a dramatic 2-1 win in 2019.

The Cobblers won the other League Two meetings 2-1 and 1-0, adding to a 3-0 FA Cup victory from 2010.
