Forest Green Rovers Women continued their fantastic start to the 2020/21 campaign, running out 2-1 winners at Swindon Town Development.
Beth Edwards and Cerys Jones were on the scoresheet for Rovers in the first half, before the hosts pulled one back in the second.
After last week's game was postponed due to weather, FGR Women travelled the short distance to Swindon Town Devs for their next game in the South West Women league.
A quick start quickly saw them take the lead after four minutes, Doris Greenwood quickly pressing and winning the ball back rolling the ball in for Beth Edwards to beat the keeper from close range.
On seven minutes, Sian Towler went close with a free-kick that the keeper did well to hold on, before captain Ashleigh Watson tested her again with another effort on target. Once again, it was saved well.
With 27 minutes gone, Rovers doubled their advantage. Cerys Jones picked up the ball from a great threaded pass, finishing superbly to extend the lead.
The game quickly became a midfield battle with few chances for either side before half time.
The Robins started the second half on the front foot, Ria Sallah finding the net with an excellent finish into the bottom corner after 51 minutes.
The the game becoming scrappy as both sides tried to get control of their final third, Rovers' resilience to remain focused out of possession once again allowing them to see the game out.
Head coach Chris Hicks was delighted with another good solid team performance throughout the team, maintaining their 100% win record and strengthening their position at the top of the league.
FGR Women are still able to host spectators at our games, and we would love to see you come and support the team. Tickets are free and can be reserved here.
