Forest Green Rovers Ladies recorded their second win of the season with a terrific 3-0 win away to Torquay United Ladies.
Rovers lined up in their new 5-3-2 formation and it worked brilliantly as they dominated the game from the off and secured a deserved win in the November rain.
Just six weeks ago, Rovers lost 1-0 at home to the same opposition, but Craig Darkin’s team were much improved this time and took the lead when Dani Whitmore’s corner drifted over the goalkeeper and in.
Forest Green continued to dictate the game and extended their deserved lead when Laura Howell scored from long range and Holly Kay finished off a brilliant team move in two minutes just before half time.
After the break, Rovers continued the domination without adding to their score and secured a comfortable 3-0 win in South Devon.
The away side started on the front foot with midfielder Sian Towler starting especially brightly, seeing a long shot tipped onto the bar.
They continued to press and stifle Torquay and finally got their reward after 20 minutes when Whitmore’s corner caught the goalkeeper by surprise and curled into the far side netting.
The pressure continued from Rovers, twice more striking the crossbar through firstly Whitmore and then Kacie Anderson.
A second goal was always on the way and it finally arrived in the 41st minute through a stunning strike by Howell, who picked the ball up outside the area and fantastically found the top corner.
Rovers then took advantage of Torquay’s disorganisation a minute later when captain Ash Watson found Kay at the far post and the striker coolly slotted the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs.
The tempo was kept up after the interval as well, without producing many chances, whilst goalkeeper Becca Woods was forced into a smart save by the Torquay striker.
Forest Green managed the game brilliantly to take home the three points and make the long journey well worth it.
