Kyle McAllister believes Rovers are heading in the right direction after picking up a point against promotion hopefuls AFC Wimbledon on New Year's Day.
McAllister put in a Player of the Match performance in the 1-1 draw with Johnnie Jackson's side, providing the assist for Matty Stevens' opening goal.
Claiming a point against an impressive outfit was a good way for Rovers to end the festive period, in which Troy Deeney's outfit have put in some stellar displays - and McAllister believes it's the least the team deserve for their recent performances.
“We played well - and probably about as well as you can in these tough conditions," he said. "We probably should have won it at the end with three or four really good chances, but overall it was a strong performance.
“Overall, we’ve had good performances in the four games under the new gaffer but we just need to score more goals. In the first half against Newport we were unbelievable, then the red card comes. Against Swindon, we had good spells in the game but some mistakes killed us at times. Today was more of a fight in the rain and the wind.
“A lot of the boys are more confident, the defence looks a lot more solid and we’re going in the right direction."
McAllister's assist was a delicious one, cutting inside onto his wicked left foot and hanging a cross up towards the back post, which was headed home by Stevens for his ninth goal of the season.
“When we train, we talk about putting the ball in the right areas, which is normally the back post," said the Scotsman.
"Matty is the kind of player who always seems to be there and he loves scoring goals. It’s great for him and his confidence, but we need to put the ball in those areas more so we can score more goals.”
For the first time since Deeney's appointment, Rovers will finally get some quality time on the training pitches at Stanley Park this week, which they haven't been able to do over the festive period due to the hectic schedule.
It'll allow Rovers to work on some of the finer details ahead of the match against Salford City and the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday. The 24-year-old believes Rovers a mix of fight, desire and a ruthlessness in front of goal can see Deeney's side take the three points back to Gloucestershire this weekend.
He said: “It’ll be a similar type of game to the Wimbledon match, we’ll probably get more wind and rain, so it’s just about fighting again and playing how we’ve been playing. If we create some more chances and convert them, then we’ll be fine.”
