We are delighted to announce the signing of striker Matty Taylor.
The experienced forward returns to The New Lawn nine years after the leaving the club. Taylor made 96 appearances for FGR between 2011 and 2014 - and he has gone on to enjoy a prolific career in the Football League since.
Taylor left FGR in 2014 and joined Bristol Rovers. He helped the Gas to back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One and his goalscoring record while at The Memorial Stadium was better than one goal every two games.
The 33-year-old then made the switch to Bristol City in the Championship, where he made 68 appearances.
The striker was released by Oxford United this summer after four years at the Yellows in League One. Since the start of the 2019/20 campaign, only Jonson Clarke-Harris has scored more goals in England’s third tier than Taylor’s 59.
Across League One and League Two, Taylor has scored 101 goals in 225 games.
Upon returning to the club, Taylor said: “I’m really excited to be here. It’s been a while, but I can’t wait to get going here again.
“I’ll work hard while I’m here. Get myself in the box, get on the end of things and hopefully put the ball in the back of the net.”
Director of Football, Allan Steele, added: “Matty is somebody who I’ve admired for a while. I know he has really strong feelings for the club and he’s an incredible person to be around.
“His goalscoring record speaks for itself and I know he will build great relationships with his new team-mates.”
