The Robins defeated FGR in Rovers’ pre-season finale, before the 26/27 campaign starts at The New Lawn.
Swindon controlled the game early, with two goals within the first ten minutes in an impressive start for Ian Holloway’s side.
Ricardo Rees managed to bag his first goal in pre-season, despite coming back for just his second game since injury.
Two goals from former Liverpool prospect Paul Glatzel, as well as contributions from Aaron Drinan and Ben Middlemas sealed a 4-1 victory for the EFL side.
Swindon Town started well and had the first real effort of the game through Aaron Drinan.
The forward battled well in the box, but his shot found the side netting.
Just moments later, Swindon doubled the lead.
Glatzel strode into the box and unleashed a fierce shot past Ethan Ross.
The visitors were two up inside ten minutes.
Syd Agina looked to get a goal back following a through ball from Sean Etaluku, but keeper Lewis Ward was equal to it.
The Robins continued to attack and almost made it three in under 20 minutes.
However, Ollie Clarke saw his effort go wide of the mark.
Rovers struggled to get a foothold in the game, creating few first-half chances.
One bright passage of play saw Mellor cross the ball into Kyle Mcallister; however, his close-range effort was saved.
It was a tough half for the lads.
Half time – Forest Green 0-2 Swindon Town
Robbie Savage’s side would get the second half underway with five changes at the break; Gabe Kircough, Omari Patrick, Kyle Kelly, Nick Haughton and Ricardo Rees replaced Kyle Ajayi, Oli Ewing, Tate Campbell, D’Mani Mellor and Sean Etaluku.
The Robins scored their third of the afternoon shortly after the restart as substitute trialist E played in Glatzel for his second of the game.
Not the start to the second half the gaffer would have wanted to see.
Although Forest Green were showing some positive signs, the away side made it four through a deflected shot from Middlemas just inside the box.
Kyle McAllister saw an ambitious effort narrowly saved as the Scotsman tried to get Rovers a consolation.
Frustration was growing around The New Lawn, but Ricardo Rees lifted the mood slightly with a goal in the 75th minute.
Some great work down the right by Osude, whose cross found Pemberton.
Tre’s first-time flick found Rees, who finished with an outrageous back heel.
A tough test to finish pre-season, but the gaffer will have learned a lot ahead of Halifax next week.
