Woking 1-1 Forest Green

Match Highlights
October 26th 2024Jasper Hudson

10-man Forest Green picked up a point on the road at Woking in a 1-1 draw at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

Despite a straight red in the first half for Ryan Inniss, Kyle McAllister was able to put Rovers ahead at half-time after latching onto a Christian Doidge header before he produced a lovely solo run and a composed finish.

Woking equalised after the break through Dan Moss from a corner, and despite Rovers' efforts on the counter attack, we were forced to settle for a point in Surrey.

The first chance of the game came when Doidge flicked a header on to Emmanuel Osadebe, who broke through on goal, but was denied by a well-timed slide tackle from Woking’s Max Dyche.

Deon Moore created Woking’s first chance after 10 minutes. The striker broke down the right and fired a low cross to the front post where Moss slid in and forced Jed Ward to produce a fine save.

Inniss was then shown a red card on 20 minutes for colliding with Moss as both players slid for the ball.

Our man between the sticks Jed Ward produced another sharp save down to his right to deny Cian Harries from the resulting free-kick.

McAllister opened the scoring for Rovers just before half-time with a composed finish.

Sean Long’s lofted pass was flicked on by Doidge into McAllister's path and he displayed some clever footwork to beat his man, dart into the box and finish at the near post.

Ward was called back upon again to maintain the advantage at the break. The keeper dived into action late to steer Jamie Andrews cross past the post.

Both sides made changes to start the second half with Osadebe being replaced by Marcel Lavinier for Rovers. Woking’s triple substitution saw Dale Gorman, Charley Kendall and Matt Ward come on for Tunji Akinola, Harries and Dion Kelly-Evans.

The hosts were once again denied by a fine save from Ward. Andrews' early cross was missed at the front post and trapped by Moore. As the striker turned and shot, it was blocked at point blank range by the onrushing Ward.

Woking equalised in the 53rd minute after a short corner routine saw substitute Gorman find Moss at the back post who headed into the far corner.

Tozer’s long throw from the left hand side with 15 minutes to go was flicked on at the front post to a waiting Adam May, but despite his best efforts, Will Jääskeläinen was able to save.

In the second minute of injury time, Ward tipped a deep cross over the bar after a chance fell to Woking. From the resulting corner when Lewis Walker flicked a header over the bar.

A free-kick for the hosts in the third and final minute of injury time was dealt with by the Rovers defence, and enough to secure a point.
