Forest Green Rovers Women were defeated 3-1 away at Marine Academy Plymouth on Sunday in the Southwest Women’s Premier League.

The away side took the lead early on in the first half when Martha Campbell’s corner went straight into the back of the net.

However, three second half goals for MAP were enough for them to complete the comeback and extend their lead at the top of the division.

It only took Rovers five minutes to go in front as Campbell’s in-swinging corner was ultimately punched into the goal by the home side’s goalkeeper.

Erin Williams had a few chances to extend the lead before Leilani Ryder’s effort from 25 yards out needed to be tipped over for a corner.

The resulting corner had looked to double Forest Green’s advantage when Carys Lowley headed home, but the referee disallowed the goal for a foul.

A second goal looked right around the corner, this time Rhian Robbins being released in behind and she forced a good save from the MAP goalkeeper.

Just after the break, Ryder had an opportunity that she couldn’t convert before MAP levelled as a low cross into the box went by Katie Thatcher and was tapped home at the back post.

The hosts second goal came not long after, this time a Kelsey Blight free kick from 25 yards out which flew into the top corner.

The game didn’t look over though as Ryder once again looked a threat, she was released one-on-one with the MAP goalkeeper who did well to save the winger’s effort with her feet.

Rovers kept knocking on the door for an equaliser until MAP scored their third, getting in behind the Forest Green defence and slotting the ball into the bottom left.

Next up for Forest Green Rovers Women is a trip to Kayte Lane on Thursday night as they take on Cheltenham Town in the County Cup semi-finals before their league meeting with Pucklechurch Sports next Saturday at The New Lawn.
