Forest Green Rovers fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Mansfield Town at the One Call Stadium on Tuesday night.
Steve Cotterill made just one change to his Rovers side that were defeated on Saturday as Harvey Bunker was preferred to Kyle McAllister.
The Stags applied some early pressure to Rovers testing Vicente Reyes who denied both George Maris and Hiram Boateng from range inside the opening ten minutes.
That pressure paid off on 20 minutes when Tom Nichols’ looping header from close-range nestled into the bottom corner.
The Stags could have doubled their lead if not for some superb defending by Richard Keogh who put an outstretched foot in the way of a Maris effort on 32 minutes.
Rovers grew into the half and almost went into break level when Charlie McCann whipped a fierce shot from a tight angle but was denied by a smart stop from Christy Pym.
The second half continued to be tightly contested but it was the Stags who fired first when Nichols drilled an effort goalward but Reyes got down well to push it away from danger.
It took Rovers until late in the game to put the hosts under pressure as Pym was forced into a crucial double save.
The Mansfield goalkeeper first stopped Emmanuel Osadebe’s close ranged effort before getting to beat away Kyle McAllister’s follow up attempt on 87 minutes securing the victory for the Stags.
Rovers are back on the road this Saturday as we travel to the Racecourse Ground for our League Two clash with Wrexham.
