Match Report | Forest Green 1-0 Solihull Moors

May stunner secures all three points

March 29th 2025Ben Brown

Forest Green Rovers returned to winning ways in the National League as they defeated Solihull Moors 1-0 at The New Lawn in the lunchtime kick-off.

Adam May’s sensational first half strike would be the only goal of the game and extend Rovers’ home league unbeaten run to 20 games.

The result sees Rovers remain third in the table and go within two points of York City in second.

Manager Steve Cotterill made four changes from the side that were defeated away at AFC Fylde the previous weekend.

Fabian Mrozek, Liam Sercombe, Charlie McCann and Joe Quigley were replaced by new signing Ted Cann, Sean Long, Harvey Bunker and Christian Doidge.

Rovers started the game on the front foot with striker Doidge finding May inside the box but his strike was saved by Oliver Wright in the Solihull goal.

Ryan Inniss then thought he had broken the deadlock when a corner ball made its way through to the centre half but his goal-bound effort was cleared off the line.

Rovers opened the scoring just after the half hour mark via a goal of the season contender.

The ball fell kindly to midfielder May on the edge of the box and he fired a volley into the top right corner.

The away side almost levelled just before the break when winger Elliot Thorpe found Immanuelson Duku inside the penalty area but his strike was well saved by the debutant Cann.

Shortly after the restart, the involved May found McAllister but his effort was blocked behind for a corner.

Substitute Tom Knowles then came close to doubling the home side’s lead when Bunker found the winger in behind but his strike was well held by Wright.

Cann was called into action once again 10 minutes from time when Moors defender James Clarke forced an impressive save out of the Rovers stopper.

Rovers saw out the remainder of the match well to secure a deserved three points.

We travel to Wealdstone next Saturday looking to make it consecutive victories in the league.
