Forest Green Rovers welcomed MK Dons to the New Lawn this afternoon with Steve Cotterill naming an unchanged starting XI from the fantastic win on Easter Monday against Crewe.
It was a good opening 15 minutes from Rovers with the team defending well and looking organised.
A lot of pressure was soaked up by the organised structure keeping the Dons relatively quiet with them only entertaining shots from range.
Rovers grew into the game further by starting to add some pressure on the Dons backline - Christian Doidge flicked on a great ball to Garrick, but he couldn’t lift his shot over visiting goalkeeper Michael Kelly on 24 minutes.
The Doidge and Garrick partnership seemed to be working well as the two linked up again soon after.
Rovers conjured a well worked move on the left-hand side but Garrick’s cross was met by a crucial block by a Don’s defender.
Against the run of play, Dom Thompson saw his loose pass picked up by Max Dean in a dangerous position.
The forward found himself one-on-one with Vicente Reyes who rushed out to close the angle down but Dean coolly slotted the ball into the left side on 40 minutes.
The second half started with MK Dons dominating the ball - Reyes was called into action to make a smart save from range after Dons midfielder Alex Gilbey fired goalward.
Gilbey came back to haunt Rovers though only three minutes later after the ball was cut back to him in the centre of the box and he hit home to make it 2-0 on 50 minutes.
This really knocked the wind out of the Rovers sails as they struggled to get any real grip in the second-half.
Manny Osadebe made a crucial block after the Dons worked a good move at 76 minutes.
Dabo found the run Osadebe on 88 minutes but his cross failed to pick out a Rovers player in the box.
Rovers pushed in the last five minutes of the game to make something happen but it was to no avail. The full-time whistle rang and all attention will now turn to Mansfield away on Tuesday night.
