Rovers secure big win in Cornwall

March 2nd 2025Peter Hill

Forest Green Rovers Women produced a dominant performance to overcome AFC St Austell 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Rhian Robbins opened the scoring with a tap in before two goals from Erin Williams saw Rovers ahead by three at the break.

Tori Taylor added a fourth in the 65th minute and then three goals in five minutes, including Williams' netting her hat-trick, secured the victory.

The win sees Forest Green maintain second place in the South West Regional Premier Division table and move onto 29 points.

"We're really pleased with the performance today," Stacey Miles said post-match. "They executed the game plan really well; St Austell gave us a few challenges on different areas of the pitch, but I think we coped with them really well."

It took eight minutes for the opener when some great work from Williams meant she managed to beat the goalkeeper and then set up Robbins who on the second attempt tapped home.

Katie Thatcher's long ball released Williams for the second goal of the match as the winger managed to slot the ball into the bottom right corner.

Both sides created half chances to get the all-important third goal of the match but it eventually came for the away side. Leilani Ryder's ball over the top found Williams who rounded the goalkeeper and then cheekily backheeled into the goal.

More chances did come with Williams having an effort from a tight angle saved by the St Austell goalkeeper, but it remained 3-0 to Forest Green at the break.

On the hour mark, Elle Scott had two good chances back-to-back to extend the lead which eventually ended up off target.

Moments later, the fourth came when some excellent skill from Ryder saw her break free and set up Taylor for an easy tap in.

Three goals in five minutes followed in the latter stages. The first came when Scott's ball released Wilson one-on-one and she placed the ball past the St Austell goalkeeper.

In the 83rd minute, Williams got her hat-trick as her strike from just inside the box flew into the top right corner for her eighth goal in as many games.

Williams then turned provider to set up Wilson with a low cross to complete a 7-0 victory.

Next up for Forest Green Rovers is a trip to league leaders Marine Academy Plymouth on Sunday, March 9.
