Forest Green Rovers came from behind to take all three points back to Nailsworth, as they beat Morecambe 2-1.
A-Jay Leitch-Smith handed the Shrimps the lead in the first half, but late goals from Jake Young and Jamille Matt turned the tide on the West coast.
Mark Cooper made three changes to the side that lost at Colchester United in midweek, with Aaron Collins, Jayden Richardson and Josh March coming into the side.
It took until the eighth minute for the game to see it’s first goalward attempt, Odin Bailey flashing an effort wide of the near post with Jake Turner scrambling.
Bailey was involved again just two minutes later, this time linking up nicely with Collins, who fired over the bar on the turn from 20 yards.
The best chance of the opening quarter of an hour cam on the end of some unbelievable FGR build-up. A combination of Liam Kitching, Carl Winchester and Ebou Adams worked the ball out of defence under pressure, the former spreading it wide to Richardson whose cross was turned just wide.
Against the tide of Rovers pressure, it was the hosts who opened the scoring after 19 minutes.
A Forest Green clearance took a heavy deflection and looped back to the far post where Leitch-Smith pounced to smash home across goal.
With half time just ten minutes away, Adams was presented with an excellent opportunity to level the encounter.
Jamille Matt used his strength well to win the ball in the area, but Adams fired the bouncing ball over with his left foot.
Winchester almost pulled Mark Cooper’s men level with three minutes of the half to play, but his effort from range fizzed a yard wide of the left-hand upright.
The captain had a chance to try his luck again before the break as Kitching teed him up from a free-kick. This time, the Northern Irishman saw his effort well gathered by Turner.
The hosts were inches from doubling their lead after 48 minutes, as Aaron Wildig pinched the ball from the Rovers backline before seeing his lob ping back off the underside of the crossbar.
Young, having replaced March at half time, almost snuck an effort in at the back post after Winchester’s cross broke for him, but it skittered just wide.
Bailey was incredibly unfortunate to not see his 66th-minute effort nestle in the top corner, instead striking the bar as it dipped viciously from 25 yards.
Rovers persistence finally paid off after 79 minutes.
Matt won the header following a cross from the left, and Young had positioned himself perfectly to latch onto the knockdown and slam home.
Just four minutes later, Rovers were ahead.
This time it was a cross from the right, and Matt again won the header, powering it past the keeper into the bottom right-hand corner.
