Forest Green Rovers secured back-to-back victories in Sky Bet League Two with a 1-0 win over Grimsby Town at the innocent New Lawn.
Jake Young netted the only goal of the match midway through the first half - which proved to be enough for all three points.
Both sides shared the majority of the play in the opening stages of the encounter – but it was Rovers who managed to carve the first opportunity.
On his return to the starting line-up, Nicky Cadden proved to be a thorn in the side of the Mariners’ right flank, finding Jamille Matt in the area who nodded his effort onto the roof of the net.
Rovers began the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded for their efforts on the 24th minute mark. Some excellent link up play between Cadden and Liam Kitching inside the area allowed the Rovers defender to find Jake Young.
The 19-year-old bended his effort beyond a despairing James McKeown, who managed to get his fingertips to the ball, and netted his third goal of the season.
Moments later and Mark Cooper’s charges nearly doubled their advantage, only to be denied by the assistant referee. Matt was adjudged to have been in an offside position when he put the ball in the net, one yard from the goal line.
A double chance just ten minutes into the second half should have seen the home side find the back of the net.
Skipper Carl Winchester sent a through ball into the area for Odin Bailey – who fired his effort straight at the Grimsby stopper. But, under pressure on the rebound, the Birmingham City loanee failed to find the target and sent his strike well over the crossbar.
Despite a late flurry of pressure from Ian Holloway's men, the visitors couldn't break down the resolute Rovers defence - with substitute Matt Green causing a number of problems as the game drew to its conclusion.
