Match Report | Forest Green 1-1 Truro

Rovers held to frustrating draw to Cornish visitors

December 31st 2025Peter Hill

Forest Green Rovers were held 1-1 at home to Truro City after Cole Deeming cancelled out Jili Buyabu’s first-half goal.

After 30 minutes, Rovers went in front as a smart set piece eventually found its way to Buyabu, and after his first shot was blocked, he rifled the ball into the bottom right on the second occasion.

It didn’t take long for Truro to get themselves back into the game after some good work from Dominic Johnson-Fisher allowed him to set up Cole Deeming, who levelled the fixture.

The second half didn’t produce many chances until the death, where both Temi Babalola and Aidan Dausch had shots well saved by Aidan Stone.

The first shooting chance of the half went to the home side as Harry Whitwell set up Laurent Mendy, but he was unable to keep his shot down.

John Askey’s side created an opportunity when their free-kick was headed back to Yassine En-Neyah, who ultimately had his volley blocked by Harvey Bunker.

Whitwell was next to have a shot, during a lull period in the game, one that didn’t test Stone from the edge of the box.

On the half-hour mark, the home side broke the deadlock as Whitwell received the short corner and laid the ball off to Buyabu, who, on the second attempt, struck home into the bottom right corner through multiple bodies.

It only took five minutes for Truro to respond as Johnson-Fisher wriggled free down the left-hand side and cut the ball back to Deeming, who controlled the ball before striking past Harry Isted.

Both sides attacked, looking to take a lead into the break with the best chance a Forest Green corner, which was dealt with by the Truro defence.

The second half started slowly with Jayden Clarke’s free-kick not able to test the goal and Tom Knowles’ shot forcing a smart save down to Stone’s left.

With 25 minutes to go, FGR and Truro had the opportunity to go in front as Nick Haughton’s corner was headed wide by Babalola before Johnson-Fisher broke well for the away side and looked good until his shot went over the stand.

Haughton had another corner which nearly tested the Truro goalkeeper as it was met by Mendy, who, unmarked, couldn’t keep his header down.

As the clock moved towards ninety, Robbie Savage’s side moved closer towards the winner as Harvey Bunker’s long ball was headed down by Kairo Mitchell to Babalola’s whose strong effort was denied by Stone, and then Haughton had a free-kick which flashed by the right-hand post.

In the last minute of stoppage time, Rovers so nearly won it as Whitwell’s cross was headed down by Ryan Inniss to Babalola, and he laid it off to Dausch, who looked destined to score before Stone saved well.
