Forest Green Rovers Women maintained their winning start to the season with a 5-1 victory over Chipping Sodbury Town Ladies in the South West Women’s League.
Rovers started quickly with Doris Greenwood forcing the Chipping Sodbury keeper into an early save within the first minute, followed by Sian Towler's attempt to test the keeper.
Just before the half-hour mark, a direct free kick awarded to Chipping Sodbury on the edge of the area was struck well to give the home side the lead.
Undeterred by the opener, FGR Women continued to push forward, and just minutes later, won a penalty after Beth Edwards was brought down in the penalty box. Towler stepped up and fired in the equaliser to ensure Rovers headed into the break level.

Rovers were rewarded for their fast start to the second half when Beth Edwards fired home to put the visitors into the lead. And just five minutes later, Edwards netted her second with a strike from a tight-angle to double Rovers' advantage. Minutes later, captain Ashleigh Watson's strike cannoned back of the post and Edwards was the first to react, rounding off a superb hat-trick.
And straight from the restart, Rovers quickly regained possession - with a cross was headed in by a Chipping Sodbury defender to round off an impressive win for the visitors, managing to control the remainder of the game despite the hosts holding firm.
Rovers host Swindon Supermarine Ladies on Sunday 4th October at Chalford Sports & Social Club. Tickets can be secured by registering HERE.
