Match Report | Chesham 0-0 FGR

October 17th 2026Tierre Miller

It was a stalemate in Buckinghamshire as Rovers and Chesham United drew 0-0 in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round.

Ben Goode made some good stops for Chesham to keep Rovers out in what turned out to be a frustrating afternoon for Forest Green.

Rovers applied pressure in the second half but were unable to grab the decisive goal.

The two sides will now go again in GL6 on Tuesday night.

First Half

Before kick-off, both sides paid respect to the former Chesham majority shareholder Roger Payne, who sadly passed away on Thursday.

It was a scrappy opening five minutes with neither side really creating much in the early stages.

However, Forest Green started to grow into this cup clash, and after nine minutes Kelvin Abrefa had a go from distance; the Rovers’ full-back’s effort went wide.

Omari Patrick then had a go for FGR with a curling effort but like Abrefa, Rovers’ number 14 couldn’t keep his effort on target.

Kyle Kelly had the best chance of the half for the Gloucestershire side, with the midfielders flick being saved by Goode after some great build up play from FGR.

Clarke had a free kick five minutes from the break for Rovers, but once again Goode would not be beaten.

Despite having good spells, it proved to be a frustrating 45 for Forest Green as the first half ended goalless.

Second Half

It was a much quieter start to the second half with very little happening in the first fifteen minutes.

Looking to spark some life in to the game, Yan, Josh and Jonathan turned to the bench in the 60th minute. Nick Haughton replaced D'mani Mellor as Rovers looked for a way to break down a solid Generals back line.

Forest Green upped the tempo after the change and more good came from Abrefa, but his cross was gathered by Goode in the Buckinghamshire side’s net.

Tate Campbell was next to try and break the deadlock at The Meadow, but his shot was blocked after some good by Kelly, who turned away from his man to create the opportunity.

Sean Etaluku then had two quick-fire chances for the Greens but could only find the wrong side of the post and the side netting.

There was a final roll of the dice from the away dugout seven minutes from time with Jose Marquez replacing Omari Patrick as Rovers looked to avoid a replay on Tuesday.

Jayden Clarke came so close to finding a winner in stoppage time but once again Goode frustrated FGR as the Chesham keeper kept his clean sheet.

Focus quickly turns to Tuesday night, when the two sides will meet again at The New Lawn, with a place in the first round proper still up for grabs.
