Worthing finished last season as champions of the National League South, collecting 84 points.

It was a strong pre-season for the West Sussex side, remaining unbeaten across all seven friendlies, with victories against Selsey, Horsham, Brighton U21s and QPR U21S.

The Mackerel Men carried this form into their National League campaign, securing an impressive 3-2 victory over Carlisle United at Brunton Park.

Worthing have also made 13 new additions to their squad, including one of FGR’s youth prospects, Jose Marquez, who has joined the club on loan for the season.

The Manager – Adam Hinshelwood

Former York City boss Adam Hinshelwood will take charge from the home dugout on Saturday.

The ex-Brighton defender is well known across the Sussex region and was appointed for the third time by Worthing in October 2025.

Worthing sat 16th in the National League South after ten games, but following a quick turnaround, Hinshelwood guided the Rebels to the league title.

Before his appointment, he was dismissed by York City despite making an unbeaten start to their season.

During his second spell in charge, he led the club to promotion from the Isthmian Premier Division in 2022 and guided his side to a play-off finish in his second campaign in the National League South.

Following the club’s first-ever victory in the National League against Carlisle on Saturday, the 42-year-old will hope to continue his side’s winning start to the new season.

Player to Watch – Teddy Jenks

Rovers fans will recognise the name Teddy Jenks, who arrived in GL6 in 2023 after being released by Brighton & Hove Albion.

During his time at the Premier League club’s academy, he enjoyed a couple of loan spells, including with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen in the 2021/22 season, where he made 24 appearances.

Jenks also represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level, earning caps for both age groups and linking up with the likes of Jude Bellingham.

The box-to-box midfielder parted ways with Forest Green in May 2025 before joining Worthing in September.

Since arriving in BN14, Jenks has made 28 appearances for Worthing and scored nine times, with his performances earning him both the Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season awards last campaign.

Rovers will need to be wary of his quality, as demonstrated in the last meeting between the sides, when he scored Worthing’s only goal against Forest Green.
