Forest Green Rovers get their National League campaign underway on Saturday afternoon as they travel to The Armco Arena to take on Solihull Moors.
Rovers have fulfilled a competitive pre-season schedule under new Manager Robbie Savage and will be hoping to kickstart their season with three points in the Midlands.
Ahead of this weekend’s clash, here is everything you need to know about our opposition.
The Opposition - Solihull Moors
Nickname: ‘The Moors’
Solihull Moors FC were officially founded in 2007 after the merger of Moor Green and Solihull Borough. They began in the National League North and remained there until winning the title in the 2015/16 season.
Since achieving promotion, they have become an established National League side, with this season being their 10th consecutive season at the level. They have twice come close to reaching the Football League, losing out in the Play-Off final in 2018/19 to Grimsby Town and 2023/24 to Bromley.
In The Dugout - Matt Taylor
Moors Manager Taylor enjoyed an impressive playing career, making over 600 appearances in English football with the majority being in the Premier League.
Since his retirement in 2019, the 43-year-old secured his first managerial job with Walsall at the start of the 2021/22 season. He has also been at the helm with Shrewsbury Town and has had National League experience with Wealdstone.
Taylor was announced as Moors boss back in January after the departure of previous Manager Andy Whing who joined League Two outfit Barrow AFC.
The 2025/26 season will be the former Portsmouth, Bolton and West Ham midfielder’s first full campaign in charge.
Player To Watch - Dan Creaney
Striker Dan Creaney joined Solihull from fellow National League side Tamworth in June after an impressive debut season at the level.
In 42 appearances, the 31-year-old scored 19 goals as well as grabbing seven assists. This tally meant he finished tied for third in the National League scoring charts, alongside Rovers' new signing, Nick Haughton.
Creaney did find the back of the against Rovers last season, scoring a 92nd-minute equaliser for Tamworth on Boxing day in a 1-1 draw.
