Match Preview | FGR Women v Bristol City Academy U21

Entry for Sunday’s match is free of charge

February 14th 2025Peter Hill

Forest Green Rovers return to County Cup action this Sunday as they take on Bristol City Academy U21 at Hartpury University.

Rovers come into the tie on the back of a 2-2 draw away at Pucklechurch Sports, a game which featured a wonder strike from Tyra Wilson to level the match.

Louise Fensome’s side, and Bristol City, have already progressed to the next round of the GFA Women’s Senior Cup with Sunday’s game a straight shoot-out for top spot in the group.

The winner of the match, and therefore the group, will take on one of Cheltenham Town, Bristol Rovers or Pucklechurch Sports at home, whilst second will travel to top of Group A. Cheltenham Town take on Pucklechurch Sports as well on Sunday with that fixture to decide the overall outcome.

The refereeing team for the cup clash will be Aaron Baker, Jason James and William Tose. It will be the first time that any of the three have been a part of an official’s team for an FGR game this season.

WHAT FENO SAYS

“They’re an academy side and they will have that fluidity throughout the team to move the ball very quickly - we will use our strengths where we can.

“We’ve got a young squad; they’ve got a young squad and for us it gives us the opportunity to give players minutes see what they can do, see how they can fit into the bigger picture of Forest Green Rovers.

“We love playing at home, we love our home turf, the amount of games we’ve won at home as opposed to away this season so we’re looking forward to it, come and support if you can!”

PREVIOUS OUTING IN THE COUNTY CUP

Forest Green Rovers defeated AEK Boco in the first match of this year’s county cup away from home. Fensome’s side conceded first but came from behind thanks to two goals from Carys Lowley.
