Match Preview | Chesham (A)

FGR will face Chesham United for the first time in this weekend's FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifier

October 16th 2026Thomas Groves

Forest Green Rovers shift their focus to the Emirates FA Cup action as Rovers travel to Buckinghamshire side Chesham United.

The Generals look to cause an upset, with FGR not being able to win their last five matches.

However, the home side haven’t been on the best of form either, currently sitting 19th in the National League South.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the first meeting between these two clubs.

The Opponent – Chesham United

Nickname – The Generals

Founded – 1917

League Position – 19th (National League South)

Despite their impressive domestic run of late, Chesham have been struggling in the 6th tier of English football, losing seven of their opening 11 games.

This has left the Generals sitting two points away from the relegation spots.

Leading up to this fixture, the hosts have played two further qualification ties, which include a 7-2 win over Ware and a 4-3 victory against Real Bedford; both of those ties were played at home.

In the 2023-24 season, Chesham earned promotion to the National League South after winning the Southern League Premier South, finishing first on 90 points.

Both teams will head into this fixture believing that they can get themselves into the first round.

Paragraph Break

The managers – James Duncan & Michael Murray

Chesham United joint managers James Duncan and Michael Murray have been in charge since October 2018.

After working together at Potters Bar in the 2017-18 campaign, they took the job at The Meadow the following season.

Since then, they’ve guided the Generals from the Southern League Premier South to the National League South.

Duncan and Murray have made Chesham an established 6th-tier side after finishing 13th and 11th in their first two seasons in the division.

They’ve also made it to the First Round Proper two years running in the 23-24 season when they lost to Maidstone and the 24-25 season when they defeated fellow National League side Yeovil in the fourth-round qualifier but lost to Lincoln 4-0 the following round.

One to watch – Hisham Kasimu

Hisham Kasimu joined Chesham United from Gosport Borough at the start of the 2026-27 season.

The French Forward made his EFL debut back in 2023 for Sutton United against Gillingham, following an impressive spell with university side Team Solent.

Kasimu went on to have stints across the non-league pyramid, with clubs such as Farnborough, Enfield Town and AFC Totton.

This season, he’s certainly impressed the United fans, with five goals and one assist in 11 games so far.

The Rovers backline will have to be wary of his skill set in the final third on Saturday.
