A look at 'The Saints'

April 2nd 2026Ben Brown

Forest Green Rovers will be looking to make it consecutive National League victories as they host Brackley Town at The New Lawn.

Rovers came from two goals down last weekend to see off Eastleigh 4-2 at The Silverlake Stadium.

A first goal in Rovers colours for D’Mani Mellor, alongside a brace from Kyle McAllister and a stoppage-time strike from Nick Haughton, earned Robbie Savage’s side all three points.

Ahead of this afternoon’s clash, here is everything you need to know about our opponents.

The Opposition: Brackley Town

Nickname: ‘The Saints’

League Position: 21st

Brackley Town have had a disappointing campaign, currently sitting 21st in the league table and occupying the fourth and final relegation place.

They are currently on 38 points, four points behind Eastleigh in 20th and with just five games remaining in the season, wins are required for the Saints if they want to avoid the drop.

The club are on a poor run of form, having gone 11 games in the league without a win and picking up just two points from those fixtures.

Their last win was back in February, an impressive 2-1 win on the road at Gateshead.

However, this concerning run, which includes nine defeats, has seen the Saints slip down the National League table.

Their remaining fixtures are not easy, taking on three of the top six away from home and both Boston United and Aldershot Town at home.

The two sides met back on Boxing Day, where Brackley came away with all three points after a 1-0 win.

A Michael Nottingham goal early in the first half proved to be the difference on the day, with the result ending a seven-game unbeaten run for Rovers in the league.

The club were promoted to the National League last season, after winning the National League North.

They had lost in the play-off final the previous two seasons, against Kidderminster and Boston, respectively.

Brackley will be hoping to gain a crucial three points in a bid to extend their stay in England’s fifth tier.

The Manager: Andy Whing

Andy Whing is the current man in the dugout for Brackley Town.

Whing was appointed as manager in February, after the departure of former manager Gavin Cowan to Shrewsbury Town.

The 41-year-old is an experienced manager, having been at the helm at League Two side Barrow and National League side Solihull Moors.

During his time with Solihull, he led the club to the National League Play Off Final and FA Trophy Final, unfortunately tasting defeat on both occasions.

Whing will be hoping to keep his side in the league and end the concerning run of form his side is on.

Player To Watch: Connor Hall

Despite Brackley’s position in the table, forward Connor Hall has had an impressive campaign for the Saints.

In 35 league games, the striker has found the back of the net on nine occasions, making him the club’s top scorer this season.

He has 16 goals in all competitions and has been in the squad for all 48 games the Saints have played this season.

He joined the club permanently at the start of the season from Solihull Moors, after helping the club to promotion last campaign.

A player who knows where the goal is, the rovers will need to be aware of Hall in and around the box.
