'The Wood' visit The New Lawn in Rovers second home fixture

August 20th 2026Daniel Withers

Forest Green Rovers welcome Boreham Wood to TNL as Robbie Savage’s side look to make it three wins from three.

After two games of the new season, Rovers sit on six points, just ahead of the Hertfordshire outfit on four.

The last meeting between the two sides was in the National League Playoffs Eliminator last season, when Zak Brunt scored the winner in extra time to help The Wood win 1-0.

Here is all you need to know about Boreham Wood ahead of the 12:30 Kick-off.

The Opposition – Boreham Wood

Nickname – The Wood

League position – 7th (4 points)

Boreham Wood finished fourth with 90 points last season before reaching the Playoff final, where they fell just short on penalties against Rochdale.

In their last game, Luke Garrard's side overcame FC Halifax Town 3-1 away from home.

The visitors at GL6 have been impressive in front of goal so far, having scored six goals in the opening two games.

The Playoff finalists have been busy this summer, bringing in a few new key players, including goalkeeper Luca Gunter, on loan from Tottenham; Oliver Bainbridge, signed from Sunderland; and Tarryn Allarakhia, who joined from Rochdale.

Paragraph Break

The Manager – Luke Garrard

Garrard has spent over ten years as Wood manager across two stints.

The 40-year-old initially took charge in 2015 before leaving in April 2024.

His second reign began just months later, in September 2024, when he led his side back to the National League after suffering relegation in the previous season.

Garrard extended his contract at Meadow Park for a further three years in May 2026.

One to Watch – Matt Rush

Matt Rush has started the 2026/27 season in fine form, as he sits on five goals in just two games.

Danger man Rush bagged a hat-trick in the first game of the season against Tamworth, which helped his side secure a point on opening day.

In his last outing, the striker added more to his account as he scored a brace against Halifax Town, helping his side to their first win of the season.

Rush has so far continued his fine goal-scoring form from last season, when he fired in an impressive 34 goals in all competitions, including 27 league goals.
