Match Preview | Altrincham (H)

Forest Green Rovers round off the bank holiday weekend by welcoming Altrincham to GL6 on Monday. 

The Greater Manchester club have had a difficult start to the campaign, losing their first three matches. 

This is the second match of a busy bank holiday weekend for Robbie Savage’s side, following Friday’s trip to Mill Farm. 

Ahead of the 3 pm kick-off on Monday, here is everything you need to know about Altrincham. 

The Opposition - Altrincham FC 

Nickname - The Robins 

Year Founded - 1891 

League Position - 23rd (0 points) * written before Friday’s fixtures. 

Altrincham currently sit in the bottom four of the Enterprise National League after a difficult start. 

The Robins have suffered defeats against Southend United, Sutton United and Boston United in their opening three games. 

It was a busy summer at the J. Davidson Stadium with 11 players joining Altrincham. 

Aidan Barlow, Owen Evans, Jack Hinchy and Kristian Dennis are just a handful of the new arrivals. 

The Manager - Neil Gibson 

Neil Gibson took charge of the Robins in October following the departure of long-serving manager Phil Parkinson. 

Gibson was initially named as interim manager, but his contract was made permanent just a month later in November. 

The 47-year-old previously had a spell at this level with Wealdstone in 2025 before leaving at the end of that season. 

The Welshman has previously managed in the Cymru Premier too, with spells at Connah’s Quay Nomads, Flint Town United and Prestatyn Town. 

The now Altrincham manager won the Welsh Cup with Connah’s Quay in 2024.  

One to Watch - Jimmy Knowles 

Jimmy Knowles was Alty’s top scorer last season, netting 11 in the National League and 16 in all competitions. 

The 25-year-old joined the Robins from Accrington Stanley in 2025. During his time in League Two he made 21 appearances, scoring two goals. 

The forward’s best campaign came in 2023-24, when Knowles scored 19 goals as Boston United went on to win the National League North play-offs. 

Knowles is now into his second season with Altrincham and will be hoping to better his 11 goals from last campaign.
