Forest Green Rovers U18’s produced a brilliant performance to secure a comfortable 4-1 win against local rivals Cheltenham Town in the Merit League Two on Saturday.
Goals from Luke Hallet and Dylan Morgan fired Rovers into an early lead in the first half, but 10 minutes before the whistle, the visitors pulled one back to halve the deficit.
Harvey Bunker soon restored the two-goal lead just minutes into the second half, as he fired home from the penalty spot before Dan Ogunleye netted the final goal of the afternoon after 54 minutes.
Play started off slowly between the two sides, until Ognuleye’s header in the 13th minute was well saved.
The 18-year old set up the first goal seven minutes later, receiving the ball high up on the right wing from Archie Thayer, exploiting The Robins’ three at the back, to cut back to Hallett in the box to finish.
The forward had a chance to add another a couple of minutes later, but struck just wide before setting up Morgan in the 32nd minute, the midfielder calmly finishing to the left of the keeper.
The visitors grabbed one back quickly when Rovers gifted the ball to their striker just two minutes later, the Robins forward slotting home with ease.
Just two minutes into the second half, Bunker stepped up and converted from the spot for Rovers’ third of the afternoon, after Morgan was brought down in the box.
The hosts weren’t done yet though, as Ogunleye found the net in the 54th minute when he chested Morgan’s cross from the left onto the underside of the bar into the goal.
Hannah Dingley’s side had chances throughout the final haf hour, but were unable to convert, as they saw out a dominant win over Cheltenham Town.
