Forest Green Rovers are looking to make it four league victories in a row when they take on Gateshead at The New Lawn on Saturday afternoon.
Rovers defeated Tamworth 4-2 on Tuesday night, moving up to third in the league table in the process.
The game also saw forward Temi Babalola get off the mark in Rovers colours, grabbing a brace.
Ahead of tomorrow’s match, here is everything you need to know about our opponents.
The Opposition: Gateshead
Nickname: ‘The Tynesiders’ & ‘The Heed’
League Position: 19th
Gateshead have made a disappointing start to the season, currently sitting in 19th position in the table and have picked up just 19 points from their opening 18 league games. The Heed are in a poor run of form in the league, having not seen victory since the end of September, when they defeated Morecambe 5-2 away from home.
Away from the National League, the club have progressed to Round Two of the FA Cup, seeing off League One side AFC Wimbledon 2-0. It is Gateshead’s fourth season back in the National League after achieving promotion from the National League North as Champions in the 2021/22 season. That title-winning campaign saw the club reach 94 points as well as scoring an impressive 99 goals in 42 league games. Since their return to step five of the English footballing pyramid, the Tynesiders have had three solid campaigns, including a play-off place finish in the 2023/24 season.
However, a play-off campaign did not follow as the club failed to secure a ten-year tenure with their stadium, preventing them from promotion into the EFL.
In The Dugout: Alun Armstrong
Alun Armstrong is the man in the dugout for Gateshead.
Armstrong was appointed as Manager back in June 2025, taking over from Carl Magnay, who resigned after less than nine months in charge.
The 50-year-old has previously managed at Blyth Spartans and Darlington, with the Heed job being just his third role in senior management.
He achieved promotion to the National League North during his time with Spartans and led Darlington on a memorable FA Cup run during the 2020/21 campaign.
Armstrong will be hoping that his side can put an end to their disappointing run of form in the league on Saturday afternoon.
Player To Watch: Kain Adom
It will come as no surprise to National League fans that Kain Adom is the player to watch for Gateshead.
The forward has made a superb start to the season, finding the back of the net nine times in 16 league games.
The 24-year-old joined the club back in January 2024 and, after two loan spells, is now a regular for the Heed.
Seven of the winger’s nine goals have come on the road, including braces against Yeovil and Wealdstone.
A player in a rich vein of form, Rovers will have to be aware of Adom’s quality in and around the box.
