Lavinier hungry for more after Rovers debut

Summer signing impressed in Doncaster defeat

September 18th 2023Sam Yapp

Marcel Lavinier insists there are positives to take from Forest Green Rovers’ performance despite being made to rue missed chances by Doncaster Rovers at The New Lawn.

Rovers suffered a late defeat, losing 2-1 to Doncaster thanks to the acrobatics of Harrison Biggins and a last-minute cross turned shot from Ben Close.

“It’s disappointing because we had so many chances in the game," said Lavinier, who came off the bench to make his Rovers debut. "On another day they’ll go in the back of the net.

“There are positives to take from it. We created a lot more chances than we have in previous games."

Rovers did get themselves level through a Jordan Moore-Taylor header on 84 minutes which was superbly supplied by a Lavinier corner.

This goal was a long time coming as Rovers dominated much of the proceedings, hitting the woodwork of three occasions, with Lavinier believing a flurry of goals will soon follow.

Lavinier said: “All I can do is put the ball into areas and Jordan managed to get his head onto my corner.

“We worked so hard in the second half to get the equaliser and had the chance to win it at the end, but they go down the other end and score a cross-shot. It’s just how our luck is going right now.

“We know the goals are coming and when they do come, we’ll be flying.”

Lavinier was subbed on during the second half and handed his Rovers debut by David Horseman. It's been a long time coming for Lavinier, who joined the club back in July, but has been forced to wait for his opportunity having signed with an existing injury.

“They [David and Louis Carey] said enjoy yourself and play the way you play.”

“That 20 minutes was needed as I haven’t played in two months, but I felt sharp out there and I’m ready for whats to come.”

After a positive first appearance in Rovers colours, Lavinier will be hoping to make his full debut at Notts County at the weekend.
