Forest Green Rovers are excited to announce the signing of Welsh striker Aaron Collins on a free transfer.
The 22-year-old will become Rovers’ fourth signing of the summer following the end of his contract with fellow League Two side Morecambe.
The former Welsh Under 19 international has over 70 first-team appearances to his name and made an immediate impact at Morecambe following his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring eight goals in 15 appearances.
He is aiming to carry that form on at The New Lawn and says he can’t wait to team up with his new strike partners and build on last season’s fifth-place finish.
Aaron Collins said: “It’s a great club and when they came in and said they were interested in me, I was very interested in talking to them.
“They are a club on the up. They only came up two years ago and last season showed what they are about, making the play-offs.
“Hopefully next season or the season after we can get promotion.
“I got eight goals in 15 appearances while I was at Morecambe and impressed a lot of managers and that was my aim.
“I need to play regular football and scoring as many goals as I can to get this team promotion.”
Mark Cooper, FGR manager, said: “Aaron is a great signing. He went to Morecambe and was outstanding.
“He caused us havoc when we went up there and is intelligent in terms of his football play.
“He will be another quality and exciting addition. He is tall, can score goals and can definitely help the team next season.”
Collins began his career at Bristol City’s academy before moving to home-town club Newport County where he was initially not offered a scholarship before signing his first professional contract at Rodney Parade.
He made 21 appearances for the Exiles, scoring twice before earning a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2016 as an 18-year-old for an undisclosed fee.
Collins went on loan five times during his spell at Molineux before seeing his contract terminated by mutual consent in January this year and moving to the Globe Arena in February where he played a key role in Morecambe’s climb away from the relegation zone – including a goal and assist in their 3-0 win over FGR back in March.
Everyone at Forest Green Rovers look forward to welcoming Aaron to the club and he will be given his squad number later this summer.
Aaron, along with the other players in the squad, are available now for player sponsorship – email email@example.com to find out more.
The signing is subject to FA and EFL approval.
