Forest Green Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of defender Ryan Inniss, following his release from Charlton Athletic.

Inniss, a 6’6” centre-back, becomes our first signing of the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old made 41 appearances for the Addicks last season across all competitions, featuring in both League One fixtures against Forest Green. He also occasionally wore the captain’s armband during his three years in South East London.

The towering defender, who began his career at Crystal Palace, has racked up nearly 150 games across League One and League Two for the likes of Cheltenham Town, Port Vale and Newport County. He has also spent time on loan north of the border at Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

While he’ll be looking to impress on the pitch during his time at Rovers, Inniss has also been commended for his work off the field in the past.

In 2022, he was crowned League One PFA Player in the Community, recognised for his outstanding work in the local community while at The Valley. Most notably, Inniss spent every Friday evening for two months visiting Charlton’s PL Kicks sessions, which aims to help young people make positive life choices.

Upon arriving at The New Lawn, Inniss said: “The last few days have been really exciting. This is a place I know fairly well from playing against Forest Green over the last few years.

“It’s a lovely part of the world, lovely fans and what the club are trying to build at the minute is something that I really wanted to be a part of.

“I spoke to the gaffer [Duncan Ferguson] and the team here and I knew it was a great fit. I played here last year and the gaffer saw me live in the flesh, which I think is massive. He knows the characteristics I have off the pitch as well. The conversation we had was project based; about what he and the football club want to do."

Head Coach, Duncan Ferguson, added: "I am really pleased with Ryan becoming our first signing of the summer.

"He's a very good player - and on top of that, a great bloke who everybody speaks highly of.

"When I spoke to him, he really bought into the project and was eager to get started. He's the type of player and profile I feel we need, so I'm delighted to welcome the big fella to FGR!"

Director of Football, Allan Steele, said: “We’re thrilled to bring Ryan to Forest Green.

“He’s an impressive individual and character. His leadership qualities have shone through and he’s already making a positive impact at the club. This is a fresh start for the club and he can help push us forward.

“I’d like to thank everybody for their support in helping complete our first signing of the summer.”
