Hicks previews delayed season opener

September 10th 2021Conor Shaw

Head Coach Chris Hicks has expressed his excitement ahead of this Sunday's season league opener against AFC St Austell.

The women's side travel down to Cornwall for their inaugural Premier Division encounter, following last weekend's postponement.

Rovers will be looking for a positive start to the campaign following a pre-season which brought 'encouraging signs' for the coaching staff.

"Pre season has been encouraging with regards to performances and results across the five games," said Hicks.

"We have had plenty of new faces recruited over the summer, with six of last season's squad leaving for University - and we wish them all the very best."

"However, we have retained the remainder of last season's squad - and we've added a mixture of young talent along with some experienced players, together with further support in the first-team staff."

"I'm looking forward to Sunday's game at AFC St Austell. We know it will be a tough first game for us in a new season. We're in a higher league after last season's upward movement, but we look forward to challenging ourselves over the coming months at that level."

Supporters are welcome to Poltair Park for this Sunday's clash (kick-off, 2:00pm).
