Forest Green Rovers claimed a point on the road with a 0-0 draw against Walsall at the Poundland Bescot Stadium. Rovers shared the points in their most recent fixture, playing out a 2-2 draw with Grimsby at The New Lawn. Walsall’s last league outing saw them defeated 1-0 at home against Harrogate.
Forest Green had the first real opportunity of the game, with a cross from Jamie Robson finding Troy Deeney in the box. The striker rose well, but his header sailed wide.
On the 10 minute mark, a cross from Fankaty Dabo was cutely flicked towards goal by Kyle McAllister, but no one was there to tap it in.
In the 20th minute, Walsall produced some nice play down the left-hand side, and a cross from Ronan Maher picked out Freddie Draper, but he couldn't direct his header on target.
Immediately after, Harvey Bunker had a go from long-range up the other end, but it was pushed away by Owen Evans in the Saddlers’ net.
A few minutes later, a ball across the box made its way to Tom Knowles who blasted a powerful effort inches over James Belshaw’s crossbar. Referee Peter Wright then went down after being knocked to the ground, bringing an end to a flurry of chances for both teams.
35 minutes in, a penalty box scramble led to a header by Draper from close-range, but an outstretched Belshaw was there to brilliantly deny him. This was followed almost straight away by penalty claims from Walsall after a deflected effort, but the referee wasn’t interested.
A quiet remainder of the first half saw the sides go into the break goalless.
The first chance after the restart came for the hosts, with a corner from Ryan Stirk finding Donervon Daniels at the near post, but his flicked attempt went over the goal.
It was then a very quiet half an hour period, with neither goalkeeper being tested.
In the 80th minute, Walsall found themselves in a two-on-one situation, but some superb defending by Ryan Inniss denied Jamille Matt from squaring it to Danny Johnson.
With 84 minutes gone, Fankaty Dabo had space to attempt a volley after bringing it down nicely with his chest, but the strike looped over the crossbar.
Four minutes into an added seven, Belshaw got down well at his near post to deny Johnson’s low effort.
A few minutes later, the final chance of the game fell to Isaac Hutchinson, as his curling effort went narrowly wide of the mark. The referee’s whistle sounded, and the points were shared.
